American RnB superstar Keri Hilson recently paid a surprise visit to DV8 Training. Her visit was an inspirational affair for the students and teachers gathered in the crowded conference suite. The Knock You Down singer discussed challenges she has faced in life, what it’s like to be a successful recording artist and her creative process towards song writing.
The interview and Q&A session offered them a rare insight into the life of one of R&B’s most prolific contemporary singer songwriters. Sighting the likes of Babyface and Lauryn Hill as some of her song writing influences, Keri astounded the students with her own song writing resume which included hits for artists such as Usher, Pussycat Dolls, Ciara and Mary J Blige. Journalist, presenter and DV8 tutor Fusion led the session.
He took Keri back in time to recall her telephone audition with Timbaland and the runaway success of their international hit ‘The Way I Are’. Towards the end of the session, the students seized the opportunity to fire their own questions at the star. Favourite collaborations, rivalry in the R&B world and her opinion on the rise of British artists on the international scene, were just some of the questions posed. She answered all their questions before signing off with an acapella.
