The Diploma
The Diploma is a new and exciting qualification which has been designed to equip 14-19 year olds with a range of unique and valuable skills which will give them more choice and flexibility about their future.
The Diploma will enable students to gain the skills that are required by industry, business and the world of work. It will also prepare students for further progression into education. This September there will be 5 new Diplomas being taught in schools and colleges throughout the UK:

- Construction and the Built Environment
- Creative and Media
- Engineering
- Information Technology
- Society, Health and Development
- There will be 17 new Diplomas by 2011
The Diploma offers the following qualifications and equivalents for GCSE and A level:
The Foundation Diploma
Level 1 qualification = five GCSEs grades D-G
The Higher Diploma
Level 2 qualification = seven GCSEs grades A* to C

The Advanced Diploma
Level 3 qualification = three and a half A levels. (Aimed at those over 16 years)
A Progression Diploma
Will be available, (also at level 3) and is equivalent to two and a half A levels. This will suit students who may not wish to complete a whole Diploma.
