Choice FM & Barclaycard Announce Music Potential 2012/13 with R&B Star Angel

CHOICE FM & BARCLAYCARD ANNOUNCE
MUSIC POTENTIAL 2012/13 – WITH R&B STAR ANGEL

IN PARTNERSHIP WITH DV8 TRAINING AND PUNCH RECORDS

Rising R&B star Angel is announced as the ambassador for Choice FM & Barclaycard’s Music Potential; a venture designed to give young people the unique opportunity to unleash their potential and learn more about the music industry from professionals across the spectrum.

This year Music Potential is taking Choice FM’s longstanding community action work to the next level as it aims to engage with over 500 young people at ‘taster events and festivals’ in London and Birmingham throughout August and September 2012. Music Potential will offer free workshops and training in DJ’ing, MC’ing, radio production, music production, song-writing, and media for young people who aren’t in work or studying.

“Through Music Potential, Choice FM continues to provide unique and innovative opportunities for young aspiring music professionals. Young people across the UK can develop and express their passion for music, further their knowledge and improve their chances of employability.”
Dalton Leong, Managing Director, Global Radio Charities and Communities.

As the new face of the programme, Island Records signee Angel takes the baton from Wretch 32 who supported Music Potential throughout 2011/12, he’ll be working alongside Choice DJ ambassadors KC & Abrantee.

Helping Choice & Barclaycard to bring the Music Potential programme to life are Dv8 Training (London) and Punch Records (Birmingham), alongside an elected band of young creative minds; The Collective, a media team of young ambassadors and mentors aiming to explore new ways to capture and share multi-media content around the programme.

“One of the biggest challenges facing the next generation of young people in the UK isensuring they have the skills and confidence to fulfil their potential. There is a realopportunity to help tackle this issue using music related education to engage youngpeople, particularly those who are not in employment education or training.”
Louise Guedes, Community Investment manager at Barclays

In Birmingham on 29 August, Punch Records will kick off the MP events calendar hosting a one-day creative & digital boot-camp based at Birmingham Ormistan Trust, (Brit School, Birmingham).

Learning from the best, guests on the day include some of the UK’s hottest emerging creative talent including actor Ashley Walters, Akala, Sasha Brooks, Choice FM’s KC, and Roxxxan. Each participant will be given their own hands-on projects to develop on the day to create their own media content. They will each be given a ‘memory’ wristband on which all their work will be recorded to make the experience as interactive as possible.

“Music Potential is a chance for the creative industries to step up and show they can give back something real to the community. Some of these young people may very well have bright ideas that could help boost the region’s economy.”
Ammo Talwar, CEO, Punch

Housed in some of the most advanced music and multimedia facilities in London, DV8 Training will facilitate five taster sessions, catering to different areas of London. They will be joined by a variety of guests including Universal A&R Ben Scarr, Levels Entertainment’s Zeon Richards and Island Records Marketing Manager Natasha Mann, DJ Abrantee and KC from Choice, who will aim to give young participants an insight into the industry.

“The project will give young people across London a chance to show what they can do. I’m confident a new wave of artists and music entrepreneurs will emerge from Music Potential.”
Alexis Michaelides, MD, Dv8 Training

In order to further develop the skills of those who take part in the taster dates, Music Potential X will run throughout the Autumn, offering 100 places consisting of work experience, accredited courses and one-on-one mentoring schemes.

Music Potential will culminate in a major youth festival at Wembley in January 2013, bringing together all of the participants across London and Birmingham, led by The Collective. Alongside performances from some of the most celebrating musicians in the UK, the event will showcase the MPX graduates new skill-sets and aim to recruit the next wave of young talent for 2013/14.
